Sir John Monash Centre
Villers-Bretonneux 2018
After I left Dreamgate Studios in 2018, I began contracting as a Developer with Eye Candy Animation in Canberra (www.eyecandyanimation.com) and took part in working on incredible projects with immensely creative developers. One of those projects was the Sir John Monash Centre “Actions and Tactics Experience” animatic and the interactive table “Australia Before the War” both built in Unity.
“‘The Sir John Monash Centre – Actions and Tactics Experience’ is a ten-minute CGI ‘bullet time’ film which tells the story of four tactically significant battles that Australians were involved in on the Western Front in France and Belgium. The battles are Fromelles, Broodseinde, Amiens and Mont St Quentin.”
The Sir John Monash Centre "Actions and Tactics" experience, won Gold in the Educational Category at the Australian Effects and Animation Festival Awards. The award is internationally recognised and places Eye Candy alongside some of the world’s best creators of digital content.
On the day before ANZAC Day 2018, The Sir John Monash Centre was officially opened. The purpose-built interpretive and educational centre commemorates Australian servicemen and women who served on the Western Front during the First World War.
The experience is presented across a huge Cinematic Wall Screen Array and a matching Floor Screen Array. The wall depicts the battles through the dramatized lens of the troops on the ground while the floor array simultaneously presents animated tactical maps depicting the high-level story of troop movements, objectives and tactical outcomes.
The opening of the centre was attended by world leaders such as Prince Charles and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

I also built an interactive table experience for the centre. The table consisted of several boxes, where opening a box would show interactive snippets of the history of Australia Before the War (available in English, French and German).
I had an incredible time with this project in which I got to work across multiple disciplines with talented industry professionals. Thanks again to Damo, Rach, and the rest of the Eye Candy crew!
